Second Adolescence

from On The Scrounge Again by White Privilege

/

lyrics

I would grow up but I'm enjoying too much
I would slow down but time waits for no man
I reckon the essence of making impressions on life is the second adolescence

The price of housing these days
A fall in the wage
Never gonna save for a deposit in an ice age
Praise the bank of mum and dad associated hotel
To which we are all ingratiated
An option is to rent, pay a stranger's second mortgage
Or a tent on a green belt
Use the woods to forage for berries and for truffles
You could ruffle a feather or two
The authorities will put you back to square one
Start anew
What you gonna do? Have a barbecue
Got a chicken wing
Got a skewer of halloumi for me and you
Crackers and cheese if you please
Green, green leaves are what you need
To make you feel at ease
My priorities are papers, tobacco and an ambiance
A slow down
A time for intransience
Soak up the sound of my clan in the front
Have another round
Now you're going down, son!

I would grow up but I'm enjoying too much
I would slow down but time waits for no man
I reckon the essence of making impressions on life is the second adolescence

Gonna get loaded in my 30s
A clean pair of shirtsleeves
My brother gets dirty with the nappies
I'm busy playing Sensible Soccer
Jose Chamot, Fat Ronaldo and Gianluca Vialli
It's my day off, I'm not getting up early
The early birds get the worm
The early fox gets the birdy
Christ, the sun's bright
I'll get up at 12.30
When I'm feeling creative I'll get tapping on my qwerty
Every other week some old biddy asks
"When you gona settle down?
When you gonna have a kid?"
How about never
I don't live my life on a schedule set by the Daily Mail
My choices are my own
It's not on my ever growing list of goals
Spunking in a pussy, something any uneducated dick can do
There's still too many people on the planet
Childcare and nursery
I won't have it
Do I look like a bursary?

I would grow up but I'm enjoying too much
I would slow down but time waits for no man
I reckon the essence of making impressions on life is the second adolescence

The second adolescence is a blessing
But it ain't all about looking after myself
I wanna make the world a better place
Show the kids how to behave
I'm an atheist respecting all religion and race
You've got a right to believe
Although I don't agree necessarily
The apple very rarely falls far from the tree
Responsibility of many types can be found
From helping others to picking up litter off of the ground
Sometimes people take the piss if I do a good thing
It don't affect me, I'll take it on the chin
I'm neither a brawler nor a delicate flower
Though I'm probably taller than the Tokyo tower
When I'm not lying down to recover from a big night
The next flight might be the leap home
The insight from my many travels could lead you astray
and persuade you to say
I did it myyyyyyyyy waaaaaaaaaayyyyy

I would grow up but I'm enjoying too much
I would slow down but time waits for no man
I reckon the essence of making impressions on life is the second adolescence
